Understanding Medicaid
Stay Covered During Uncertain Times
Health insurance is important to keeping your family healthy, but recent changes in Medicaid rules can make it feel confusing to know whether you’re still covered. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), CHDC is committed to making sure you and your family continue to have access to quality care regardless of changes to your insurance status. Recent changes to Medicaid eligibility across the U.S. have put many individuals at risk of losing their coverage. If you currently receive Medical Assistance, it’s important to take action now to protect your benefits and understand your care options.
How to Know if You Have Medicaid
In Pennsylvania, Medicaid is also called Medical Assistance. If you’re not sure whether you have it:
- Check your ID card. Medicaid coverage in Pennsylvania usually comes through a managed care plan under HealthChoices (for example, AmeriHealth Caritas, Keystone First, UPMC for You, or Aetna Better Health). Your insurance card will list the plan name.
- Log in to COMPASS. Visit COMPASS.state.pa.us to view your benefits, renewal dates, or submit updates.
- Call for confirmation. Contact the Statewide Customer Service Center at 1-877-395-8930 (or 1-215-560-7226 if you live in Philadelphia) for help checking your status.
Why Medicaid Matters
Medicaid coverage allows eligible individuals and families to receive medical, dental, and other primary care services. It covers everything from pediatric checkups and vaccines to prenatal care, emergency services, and medications. Losing coverage can mean delays in care or expensive bills.
