Flu Season Is Here!

Get Vaccinated to Protect Yourself and Your Community

It’s time to protect yourself and your loved ones now that flu season has begun. Last year, Pennsylvania recorded over 234,000 confirmed cases of influenza (flu), resulting in more than 40,000 hospitalizations and over 1,000 deaths. Nationally, 280 children died from flu-related complications—half of whom had no underlying medical conditions.

Flu Vaccine Blog Oct 2025

Getting an annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and your community from serious illness. The vaccine is updated each year to protect against current strains and is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. If you haven’t received a flu shot yet, there’s still time. Talk to your CHDC provider about scheduling yours or give us a call at 610-326-9460 to get your appointment scheduled.

Most insurance plans cover the flu vaccine at no cost when administered by an in-network provider. For individuals who are uninsured or underinsured, flu vaccines are available through State Health Centers and Federally Qualified Health Centers like CHDC. Children who qualify can receive free flu vaccines and routine immunizations through the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

It is very important for people at higher risk of developing serious flu complications to be vaccinated each year. Those who should receive the flu vaccine include:

  • Adults 65 and older
  • Children under 5
  • Pregnant individuals
  • People with chronic health conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease)
  • People living in long-term care facilities

Why Vaccinate?

By getting vaccinated, you are not only protecting yourself but also your family, friends, and fellow community members - especially during the upcoming holidays, where gatherings are more frequent. It’s important to help control the spread, especially for those at higher risk of developing serious flu complications. Vaccines are both safe and effective for most people. Visit CHDC to get your flu shot today – available for kids and adults! Protect yourself, your family, and your community this season.

PA DOH recommends that Pennsylvanians follow the most recent immunization recommendations issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
